2024 NECL Season

2023-09-19T16:32:55+01:00By |League News|

With the 2023 season now complete, it is time to look ahead to 2024 and make initial plans. If you wish to join the league as a new club please contact the Exec Committee on the Contacts page of the website, and make known your intention, and which competition you would like to enter. There is a critical requirement for teams to join the 40 over competition to make the second division sustainable, so if this is something that your club, or maybe your current NECL T30 side are exploring, then again please contact the Exec Committee. There is no automatic promotion from Division Two, only if the champion club wants to pit themselves against Division One ,will promotion and relegation occur. The Annual General Meeting will be at the end of October, but submissions for new clubs and teams should be in by Friday 6th October at the very latest.

Week 13 (July 13-16) – T20 Finals Day taking shape, as Colchester & Mistley join Halstead

2023-08-15T21:38:54+01:00By |Weekly Round Up|

T20 A bumper week of fixtures in the T20 saw Finals Day begin to take shape. On Thursday, a Colchester concession at Springfield saw the hosts improve their chances of reaching Finals Day. Mistley qualified and completed their programme with a ten run win over Coggeshall. Mistley posted 189 for 5 from their 20 overs, with Daniel Goff (73 from 37 including 6 sixes) excelling, three of his sixes coming in the last over before he was dismissed.. Owen Clover (40) had earlier posted a run a ball knock. Eben Botha made matters interesting with a 40 ball 71, and with Charlie Green jnr (24) and Alistair Marlow (28) giving more than useful support the run chase was well and truly on. Tidy spells from Matthew Spoors (1 for 24 from 4) and Zak White (1 for 15 for 3), as well as Will Garnham (2 for 33) eventually swung the game the way of the Swans, and despite an unbeaten 24 from Trevor Garraway, they were able to secure victory and their passage into Finals Day. On Sunday, Abberton conceded their game with Colchester & E.E which ensured the Castle Park side were through to Finals Day. In the [...Continue Reading]

Week 12 (July 6-9) – Springfield heap more pressure on Colchester

2023-08-15T17:31:47+01:00By |Weekly Round Up|

Division One The pressure continues to build on bottom side Colchester & E.E, after Sunday's defeat at the hands of Springfield at Coronation Park. Half centuries from Mazher Khan (57) and Jonny Evans (59) were building blocks for a big Springfield total, with a number of the later order playing some nice little cameos with Lee Brooks 31 from 23 balls the biggest contribution. George Mallinder picked up 4 for 63, as Springfield reached 270 for 8 from their 40 overs. It was a case of good start for Colchester, and then missing out on big scores, with four batters topping thirty. Joe MacGregor (41), Adithya Ashok (38), Imran Sahrai (33) and James Pemrick (35) all missing out. Lee Brooks (3 for 64) and Shan Thevashakayam (3 for 35) were the most successful Springfield bowlers as Colchester were bowled out for 204. T20 Halstead claimed their fifth win in the group stage, after Wivenhoe conceded their match on Sunday. Wivenhoe did play on Thursday, and scored a six wicket success over Abberton at The Brow. Abberton laboured to 96 for 8, with Chris Pettit (26no) top scoring. James Butcher (3 for 13 from 4) was the pick of the bowlers, [...Continue Reading]

Week 11 (June 29 – July 2) – Witham slip up to Springfield again

2023-08-15T16:38:34+01:00By |Weekly Round Up|

Division One Springfield defeated Witham for the second time this season, a result that would seem to end Witham's defence of the NECL Division One title. Batting first after winning the toss, centuries from Charlie Prudence (156no) and Aaron Salil (107) in the a third wicket stand of 142, and a half century from Callum Eva (53) propelled Springfield to 354 for 4 from their 40 overs. In reply, there were solid knocks from Christopher Garrard (40) and Ben Tinham (59), but a decisive spell of 4 for 25 from 25 balls by Shan Thevasakayam eventually saw Witham slide to 193 all out and defeat by 161 runs. Elsewhere in Division One, Colchester & E.E. conceded for the third time this time resulting in another 10 point deduction and seeing them slide to the foot of the table. Halstead were the beneficiaries on this occasion. Sudbury's match at home to West Bergholt was cancelled due to the Sudbury ground being used by Suffolk CCC in entertaining Northumberland CCC in the Quarter Finals of the Minor Counties one day cup. Both Sudbury and West Bergholt receive six points. Division Two Galleywood kept the pressure on the leaders Chelmsford with a 166 [...Continue Reading]

Week 10 (June 22-25) – Top two in Division One win again

2023-07-12T16:45:25+01:00By |Weekly Round Up|

Division One There was no let up between the top two in Division One in Week 10, with both Witham and Clacton recording victories. Witham made the trip to West Bergholt, and after winning the toss and electing to bat made heavy weather, as Joe Smith (3 for 24) and Mustafa Irshad (3 for 16) shared the first six wickets with not a lot of runs on the board. Jack Bamford (63) rescued the innings, and a good last wicket stand between Benjamin Hunt (17no) and Cam Wilson (15no) got Witham up to 161 for 9 from their 40 overs. In reply, Bergholt were soon in trouble as Cam Wilson (4 for 20 from 9) decimated the top order. Dean Conybeare (21) and Lee Greenleaf (20) were the only batters to reach 20, as the host were bowled out for 109 to leave Witham victors by 52 runs. Victory was much more simpler for Clacton, as for the second week running Colchester & E.E. conceded, resulting in them receiving a 10 point deduction. Sudbury scored their first victory of the campaign with a six wicket success over neighbours Halstead. Halstead batted first after winning the toss at Star Stile, and [...Continue Reading]

Week 9 (June 15-18) – Witham and Clacton beat the rain to pick up 20 points

2023-06-20T16:08:10+01:00By |Weekly Round Up|

Division One The top two beat the rain, and picked up 20 points each in differing circumstances on Sunday. Leaders Witham were given the afternoon off, after Colchester & E.E. conceded their match. Clacton hosted Halstead at Vista Road, and batting first after winning the toss, recovered from losing skipper Kieran Parkes for a duck. Shaun Mathews (54 from 43) and James Lee (81) put on 95 for the second wicket. However, only middle order batters Luke Sumner (20) and Pierson Mann (15) were able to reach double figures from the rest of the line up, and the dismissal of Lee then saw the last five wickets fall for 3 runs, as Clacton were bowled out for 208. Callum Hansey (3 for 23) running through the lower order. In reply, Halstead seemed to be cruising toward 20 points, as James Tyson (27 off 14), Matthew Tyson (38 off 34) and Hayden Plumb (47 off 56) raced them to 105 for 1, after 12 overs. The score progressed to 141 for 2, before Luke Sumner (6 for 36) bowled a decisive spell which saw the last seven wickets fall for 25 runs and bowled out for 166, and defeat by 42 [...Continue Reading]
